Solar Panels in Manufacturing and How Forge is Investing

Solar Panels in Manufacturing and How Forge is Investing

15 July 2026

Sustainability in manufacturing is often discussed in broad terms. At Forge we like practical action, one of the ways we've implemented this in manufacturing is through solar panels.

As a UK manufacturer specialising in custom LED solutions, sustainability is an increasingly important part of how we operate, innovate and support customers across multiple industries. One of the important steps in that journey has been the installation of solar panels at our facility, helping Forge generate renewable energy on-site.

While solar energy is now a familiar sight across homes and businesses throughout the UK, its role within manufacturing environments is becoming increasingly important. For companies like Forge, where technical design, testing, prototyping and production all require energy-intensive processes, improving energy efficiency is not simply about sustainability targets. It’s about future-proofing operations, reducing waste, and making responsible long-term decisions.

Solar Panels in Manufacturing Supporting Lower Carbon Operations

Since installation, Forge’s solar panels have generated thousands of kilowatt hours of renewable electricity, contributing towards reducing reliance on externally sourced electricity during operational hours and helping power day-to-day activity across the business.

Seasonal trends have been particularly noticeable. During spring and summer months, the system has delivered significantly higher energy yields, reflecting the increased daylight hours and demonstrating the value solar can bring to UK manufacturing environments. In May 2025 alone, the system generated more than 1,500 kWh of renewable electricity, with total generation during 2025 exceeding 8,300 kWh, indicating that the installation already supports Forge’s wider sustainability objectives by generating renewable electricity on-site during operational hours.

For manufacturers across the UK, solar panels in manufacturing environments are becoming an increasingly attractive investment. Rising energy costs, environmental targets and growing customer expectations are encouraging businesses to explore renewable technologies that support both operational efficiency and sustainability goals.

More importantly, this investment forms part of a wider mindset shift. Sustainability is no longer a ‘nice to have’ within manufacturing and engineering sectors. Customers, partners and industries across transport, infrastructure and technology increasingly expect suppliers to demonstrate environmental responsibility alongside technical capability.

Sustainable Manufacturing and Renewable Energy Investment

At Forge, sustainability goes beyond a single initiative.

From designing long-life LED lighting solutions to reducing waste through efficient engineering and manufacturing processes, we recognise that environmental responsibility is often driven by a series of smaller, consistent decisions.

Within the LED manufacturing industry, product longevity and energy efficiency already play a major role in reducing environmental impact. By combining these principles with investment in renewable energy generation, Forge continues building a more sustainable manufacturing environment for the future.

The solar installation reflects that same philosophy. Rather than approaching sustainability as a marketing exercise, the focus is on creating meaningful operational improvements that support both the business and the industries we work within.

As energy costs, environmental expectations and operational pressures continue to evolve, investments in renewable technologies will play an increasingly important role across UK manufacturing.

The Future of Solar Panels at Forge

The transition towards more sustainable operations is ongoing, and solar energy is just one part of that journey.

As Forge continues to invest in innovation, efficiency and future-focused manufacturing, renewable energy will remain an important consideration in how we operate and grow.

For us, sustainability is not about chasing headlines. It’s about making sensible, long-term decisions that support our customers, our team and the future of UK manufacturing.

Whether through renewable energy investment, efficient LED design, or continuous operational improvements, Forge remains committed to building a more sustainable future for manufacturing and engineering.
